It all began with an idea ......
The club Kultur am Land (the word for word translation would be "culture in rural environment") was founded in 1986. Since then, Kultur am Land has been offering opportunities of experiencing culture. Getting to know culture(s), participating actively, sharing informations, discussing, approaching also critical topics, are our ways of exploring culture. This pleasure of exploring and experiencing culture has always been the main idea in our 20-years-long involvement in the cultural scene. Comparing and contrasting culture gives us new insights, becoming aware of differences, and finding out common aspects broadens our perspectives. We see all persons with all of their individual facets as culture. Culture needs space ...... Not only does Kultur am Land organise events at a regional level, we are also proud to stimulate the cultural scene by offering art different from mainstream trends and by promoting and encouraging young and upcoming talents. Contrary to the current situation of other organisations, Kultur am Land does not face any problems in gaining new members. Both, the young and the old, interested in culture, are welcome to join Kultur am Land and participate actively in the cultural scene. The best example to illustrate this is the club’s current management team, consisting of people of three different generations. Variety replaces uniformity ...... As we are dedicated to offer culture in all its varieties to the people (especially to those living in the countryside), we have always been open to both conventional and new ways in the broad field of culture. Events such as cabaret, concerts, readings, exhibitions, theatre performances, workshops, creative activities, dance, various programmes for children and teenagers are the basis of our cultural involvement. Culture unites ...... Our principle is open-mindedness in relation to other cultures. We believe that an open atmosphere with contacts and exchanges makes fear and prejudices decrease. Contrary to current trends of establishing borders, excluding people and the lack of understanding towards the other, we support projects with disabled people, refugees, homeless people, emigrants etc. The main focus of these projects is the understanding of other, new, uncommon aspects by being confronted with other cultures, by becoming more familiar with them and by overcoming fears. The results of such cultural encounters are more awareness towards cultures and the discovering of new cultural aspects. Space for the young and active ...... Giving space to young people and relying on their active participation in creating it, according to their own ideas, with the necessary responsibility, is also one of our main ideas. We want to offer a place, away from adults’s established opinions and event prejudices, where the young have the opportunity to discover talents and creativity on their own, by taking responsibility. This place should also allow them to try things out and become familiar with the new. Space for creativity ...... Together with the reconstruction work in Kultur am Land’s premises in 2001, the Kultur am Land team went a step further by opening their rooms for wokshops and seminars. During the week, Kultur am Land is usually well booked with various events taking place there. It is one of our basic ideas that we encourage people from the area to believe in their creativity and to pass on their skills and experience to others. Individuality for the future ...... Our own future lies in the hands of the children. Therefore, the work with children and young people is very important to us. We do not want to offer stereotypical events. However, it is our aim to offer children an open encounter with various themes, choices, opportunities for discovering their individual talents without pressure. Becoming familiar with new aspects, participating actively with their parents and exchanging opinions are only some of the values in our cultural involvement with children and teenagers. In good times and bad ...... Our commitment in terms of culture has not changed over the years: Kultur am Land stands for delight, fun, joy, pleasure. Our small group of members involved in the organisational parts is still as dedicated to culture as in the beginning. However, the wide range of feelings sometimes includes both euphoria and frustration, disappointments and great experiences with people from different cultural backgrounds. Volunteering is our daily reality. We all grow with our tasks and topics. Nobody knows what the future brings. We will definitely continue in our aims of making culture(s) more familiar to people – from people for people. |
